PRODUCTS &
CAPABILITIES
DRAKE PLASTICS OFFERS EXTRUSION, INJECTION MOLDING AND FABRICATION CAPABILITIES FOR ALL TORLON RESIN GRADES INCLUDING 4203*, 4275, 4301*, 4435, 5030 and 7130.
Our combination of capabilities offers customers fast, seamless supply of Torlon parts and profiles. We can often prototype within days utilizing standard extruded or injection molded shapes. After prototypes are tested and approved by the customer, we offer the most economical production alternatives to produce the finished part- whether on-size extrusion, machining from a near net shape or injection molding.
Drake Plastics pioneered a process to produce
Seamless Torlon Tube®. Drake's Seamless Tube® does not
have weld lines that can result in cracking
problems. Drake offers Seamless Torlon Tube® in
scores of sizes, and custom sizes can be produced
with low minimums, quickly and economically.
In addition to Custom Profiles, Our Current
Extrusion Range is as follows:
|
Rod:
|
From .050" to 5.50" (1.25 mm to 140.0 mm)
|
|
Seamless Tube®:
|
OD's from .67" up to 5.1" (17 up to 130 mm),
with ID's from .300 up to 4.0" (7.6 up to
100 mm).
|
|
Plate:
|
From .078" up to 1.350" thick (2.0 to 34.3
mm)
|
*Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products, Inc. produces standard Rod and Plate from these grades. Drake Plastics works in close collaboration with Quadrant on Torlon stock shapes. All Quadrant produced Torlon shape products are in stock at Drake.
MACHINED TORLON PART
CAPABILITIES:
Drake Plastics supplies machined Torlon parts in prototype through production quantities. Custom profiles are often produced to minimize cost. The most economical machining process is selected based on the part detail and volume. Precise tolerances are standard.
MOLDED TORLON PART
CAPABILITIES:
Drake Plastics supplies a broad range of injection molded Torlon Parts quickly and competitively. All Torlon resin grades are available. Finishing via secondary machining, grinding and assembly are offered to give customers turnkey molded part solutions. This coupled with our ability to quickly machine prototypes and initial production from extruded shapes offers customers a reliable, single-stop for introducing new Torlon parts.
TORLON GRADE DESCRIPTIONS AND
APPLICATIONS:
TORLON 5030 AND 7130 (HIGH STRENGTH GRADES)
Drake Plastics specializes in custom profiles and parts from these fiber filled grades. 5030/ 7130 materials represent the highest performing melt processable plastics available in terms of strength, stiffness, dimensional stability and thermal resistance. At 25% the weight of metals and lower thermal expansion than aluminum, Torlon 5030 and 7130 are ideal candidates for metal replacement.
We stock both grades in rod and plate for immediate delivery.
TORLON 5030 (30% GLASS REINFORCED
PAI)
In addition to strength and dimensional stability,
Torlon 5030 is electrically insulative. It has
exceptional dielectric strength- over 800-volt/ mil.
It offers best- in- class radiation resistance,
withstanding exposure to 10 x 9th rads*. Close
tolerance components are produced from 5030
including welding tip insulators, CVT clutch
rollers, fasteners, igniter cups & cases, gears,
splines, hydraulic poppets and many other structural
and dynamic components.
TORLON 7130 (30% CARBON FIBER REINFORCED
PAI)
Torlon 7130 has unparalleled performance in several key areas. Included is the highest stiffness and lowest coefficient of thermal expansion among plastics. The addition of carbon fiber makes 7130 electrically and thermally conductive. Wear resistance, heat dissipation and load carrying capability make Torlon 7130 ideal for tribological applications. Its strength, stiffness and best in class fatigue resistance make it ideal for high temperature structural and wear components including landing gear bushings, wear strips, precision dowel pin guides and long wear chain bushings among others.
TORLON 4275, 4301 & 4435
(LUBRICATED GRADES)
These Torlon bearing grades offer low friction and
superior wear resistance.
Torlon 4275 is 20% Graphite powder and 3% PTFE
filled, and is used in higher speed applications
including motor thrust bushings and set screw tips.
Torlon 4301 is 12% Graphite powder and 3% PTFE
filled. It serves general bearing & wear
applications.
Torlon 4435 is the newest and best wear grade for
high PV applications. See complete details on 4435, as well as
comparisons to Vespel ® SP-21 and PEEK FC30 on our Torlon 4435 page.
TORLON 4203 (NON-REINFORCED
PAI)
When thermal and mechanical parameters require
Torlon, and the maximum toughness, ductility and
abrasion resistance are needed, Torlon 4203 is the
solution. Like Torlon 5030, Torlon 4203 is
electrically insulative, with a dielectric strength
of 540 volts/ mil.
